THE LOCAL AREA

Hill House Farm is ideally situated between the outstanding landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Parks offering a wide variety of days out and places of interest.

Walking offers one of the best ways to explore the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Parks. The Cleveland Way and Lyke Wake Walk provide exceptional long distance walking while the many and varied footpaths that cross the area offer a good selection of shorter walks.

Cyclists are well catered for with many rural routes and bridle ways available. There are great cycling opportunities in the Yorkshire Dales, Dalby Forest, touring the Hambleton Hills or around Sutton Bank. Bicycles can be hired in Northallerton or if guests bring their own cycles we can offer secure storage at Hill House Farm.

For railway enthusiasts the recently re-opened Wensleydale Railway runs from Leeming Bar to Leyburn.

Local places of historic interest include Kiplin Hall, Mount Grace Priory, Fountains Abbey, Richmond Castle and lots more in the surrounding area.

The various other places of interest include The Black Sheep Brewery at Masham, the Birds of Prey Centre at Thorpe Perrow and horse racing at Catterick or Thirsk.

The cities of York and Durham are both an easy drive away as is the coast at Whitby or Scarborough.

Local shopping in the market town of Northallerton offers a choice of supermarkets as well as specialist shops and a good range of local pubs, restaurants and cafes.

For sports enthusiasts the local golf club and driving range is 1.5 miles away and there is horse riding and fishing in the vicinity.
